Inheritance

Jackson has inherited many things from his mom and dad, some things good and some things not so good. For example, from his mom he has inherited his immune system (not so good), his eyes, his smile, and his dimples. From his dad, he has his hair, his height and his abilities to make sound effects.

This week we learned another thing he has inherited from one of us. He has inherited from his mother a love of cats. We went to a friend’s house earlier this week to get his hair cut and they have lots of animals. They have cows, a pygmy goat, dogs and cats with a whole bunch of kittens.

He loved all of the animals but he really loved the cats and kittens. He had to have ALL of the kittens on top of him. He would get upset if we took him away or didn’t let him have all of the kittens. Hence the tears (plus he hated getting his hair cut).

Our little boy is 18 months!

Where did the time go??  Jackson turned 18 months on Wednesday!  He is such a fun little boy, and we are ever impressed at how much he learns each day.  We had Jackson's 18 month checkup today and for the first time in his life he is on the other end of the weight spectrum.  He also keeps getting taller and taller!  No wonder people keep making comments to us about how he must be a "healthy eater" :)

Here are his stats:
Weight - 25.5 lbs, 69th percentile
Height - 34.5 inches, 96th percentile

At 18 months, Jackson ...
* sleeps about 11 hours each night, and takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon
 * is the SWEETEST little boy ever.  He loves to give "loves" and blow kisses to us, his stuffed animals, random people that come to our house, and especially babies.  He is going to be a great big brother some day.
* is definitely a boy, through and through.  He loves cars and trucks and balls and to throw everything.
Giving blue bear a ride in his truck
* is quite the little ham.  He is always coming up with some new face or gesture that cracks us up.  He also has the best laugh.  Here's a little video of Jackson doing his "gangsta" moves.

* has some crazy hair!  Check out his hair in the video above.  We have given him 3 haircuts so far, and the poor guy is deathly afraid of the clippers.  Haircuts are not fun in our house, but unfortunately if we let his hair grow too long it gets pretty crazy!
This is how much hair we cut off two days after that video
He still hadn't recovered halfway through his post-haircut bath :(
* has turned into quite the little monkey.  Last Friday morning I went in to get Jackson from his room to find that he had climbed out of his crib and was waiting by the door with his little Mickey and blue bear in hand and a big smile on his face.  Silly boy!
This resulted in him clearing everything within reach off the dresser,
trying to climb on top, and almost falling in the space in between
the changing table and dresser.
* loves the water!  He plays in water anywhere he can find it.  He even figured out that there was water in the toilet while staying in one of our hotels this summer and decided to play in it.  Don't worry, we washed his hands really well after we took the picture!

* has been learning different animal sounds.  He can make an elephant, monkey, sheep, dinosaur, cat, and sometimes a dog.

* is learning all kinds of words.  Shawn and I made a list this morning and he has about 20 words that he says well and uses regularly, and he seems to be learning more and more every day.  He is getting great at repeating words we say to him.

Jackson is such a fun little boy.  He makes us laugh every day, and has a smile that can melt the heart of even the grumpiest stranger.  We are so lucky to have him!  Happy 18 months little man!
Jackson loves playing the piano
Chatting with daddy on the computer

He looked like a pretty cool dude in daddy's head lamp :)
Seriously ... best smile ever!!
